We hope for a healthy planet able to sustain life for many generations to come.  However, our worldwide industrial and commercial culture is carrying us away from sustainability.

Wise elder Joanna Macy writes about the change of direction needed to turn towards a sustainable culture.  She calls this the Great Turning.   In her description of the Great Turning, she includes the need for shifts in consciousness to make the Great Turning work.  We can think of these shifts in consciousness as changes of heart.

“Beloved Earth” is a phrase used in this website for the vision behind the Great Turning.  The vision of the Beloved Earth integrates all the human ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Beloved Community – peace, justice, equity and so on – with health and sustainability for all ecosystems on our planet.
