To make Unitarian Universalist congregations more effective
Positive, transforming changes of heart
Sometimes our changes of heart are positive, and have a transforming impact on us, allowing us to live in a more integrated way. These can be moments of deep insight, or times when our mixture of feelings becomes much clearer. When we hear someone talk about a “moving experience,” that person may be talking about one of these positive, transforming change of heart. These positive, transforming changes of heart also include what are called spiritual or religious experiences.
When we experience one of these positive, transforming changes of heart, we become more accepting and loving – with ourselves and with others.
Our Unitarian Universalist congregations exist in part to encourage these positive, transforming changes of heart, and to help people of all ages understand changes of heart.
We may experience positive, transforming changes of heart in terms of our relationship with God or a Higher Power. Or we may experience such changes without reference to any Higher Power or god-image. For instance, when a young person comes to a clear understanding of a career goal, this can be a transforming experience – a positive, transforming change of heart. The young person may experience this change with or without reference to any Higher Power.
